Modern key fobs aren't just remote controls - they communicate with the vehicle's onboard computer through a rolling code or proximity signal. That means a fob has to be paired (programmed) to the specific car, not just battery-tested. We have the equipment to handle pairing for a wide range of makes and models, including push-to-start smart key vehicles.

When fob programming is the answer

The most common reason people call about a fob is that it 'just stopped working.' Sometimes that's a dead battery, sometimes a sticky button, and sometimes the vehicle has lost its pairing with that fob. We can diagnose which one you're dealing with and program a replacement when needed. We also handle situations where a customer has purchased a fob online and needs it programmed, or where someone wants a programmed spare for a vehicle that came with only one.

  • Replacement fobs for lost or broken originals
  • Spare fobs for used vehicles or two-driver households
  • Aftermarket fobs the customer purchased separately
  • Smart key (push-to-start) re-pairing
  • Fob battery replacement and diagnosis
  • Re-coding after a fob has been lost or stolen

Online fobs - when they work and when they don't

Buying a fob online can save money up front, but it only works if the fob is the right part number and isn't already locked to another vehicle. We see customers arrive with the wrong shell, the wrong frequency, or a 'used' fob that's still bound to its original car. When you call, tell us where the fob came from and the part number printed on it, and we'll let you know whether it's likely to pair before we head out.

Smart keys and push-button start

Push-to-start vehicles use a slightly different programming process than traditional remote fobs. The fob doesn't just unlock the doors - it broadcasts a proximity signal that tells the car it's allowed to start. Re-pairing a smart key requires both the right equipment and access to the vehicle. We handle these jobs on-site for most makes.

When a fob isn't really the problem

Sometimes a 'fob issue' is actually an antenna ring, a body control module, or a low vehicle battery confusing the system. Part of our job is figuring that out so you don't pay for a fob that wasn't the real fix. If the issue is something we can't address (a failed module, for example), we'll tell you straight rather than throw parts at it.

Local on-site fob programming

We bring the equipment to you - driveways in Rincon, parking lots in Pooler, jobsites in Port Wentworth. Once we have your year, make, model, and the fob's part number, we usually arrive ready to finish the job in a single visit. Service requirements vary depending on the vehicle and fob type.

Common situations

Calls we get every week.

If your situation looks like one of these, you're in the right place.

Lost a fob, need a replacement

We can program a new fob and re-code the system so the lost one no longer works.

Bought a fob online

Tell us the part number - we'll let you know if it's pairable before we visit.

Push-button start won't recognize fob

Often a re-pair fixes it. We can diagnose and reprogram on-site.

Need a backup fob

Two-key households are smart. We'll cut and program a spare.

Common questions

Straight answers before you call.

If you don't see your situation here, give us a ring - we'd rather walk you through it than have you guess.

Can you program any aftermarket fob?

Most. Some no-name aftermarket fobs are unreliable or aren't actually programmable for the vehicle they advertise. Call with the part number and we'll let you know up front.

Will my old fob still work after you program a new one?

If you want it to, yes. If a fob is lost or stolen and you want it deactivated, we can re-code the vehicle so only the new fobs work.

How long does fob programming take?

It varies by vehicle. Most jobs wrap up within a single visit. Service requirements vary depending on the vehicle and fob type.

Do you do smart key (push-to-start) programming?

Yes - we handle smart key programming for most common makes.

Do I need to provide the fob, or do you supply it?

Either works. We can supply the fob for most vehicles, or program one you've already purchased.
