Door slams shut
Latch-speed adjustment. We can usually fix in a single visit.
If your business's door slams, won't latch, or stays open in the wind, the closer is usually the culprit. We install, adjust, and replace door closers properly.
Every commercial door you've ever walked through has a door closer at the top - the small hydraulic arm that controls how the door swings shut. When it's working, you don't think about it. When it's failing, the door slams hard enough to startle customers, won't latch behind staff, or just hangs open and lets the air conditioning out. Door closers are one of the cheapest pieces of hardware to ignore and one of the easiest to fix.
Closers don't fail dramatically - they degrade. Customers usually call us when one of three things has gotten bad enough to notice. The door slams hard, especially in summer when interior pressure pushes back. The door doesn't pull all the way to the strike, so it sits slightly open and won't latch. Or the closer is leaking hydraulic fluid, leaving spots on the floor under the arm.
A surprising number of closer issues come down to adjustment. Most commercial closers have two or three valves that control sweep speed (how the door swings), latch speed (the final inches before the door closes), and back-check (resistance against being thrown open). When a door slams, the latch-speed valve usually needs adjusting. When it won't latch, the spring tension or sweep speed needs to be set. We can handle these adjustments on-site without replacing the closer. When the closer is leaking or the internals are worn, we replace it - usually with a model that matches the door's traffic and weight.
Closers are sized to door weight and width. A heavy commercial entry door needs a closer with more spring strength than an interior office door. Putting an undersized closer on a heavy door is a setup for failure - the closer won't last long, and the door won't latch properly. When we replace a closer, we match the size to the door so it works correctly and lasts.
A door that doesn't latch is a security issue, not just a maintenance one. It also creates issues for HVAC efficiency, pest control, and noise. For a business with public traffic, a slamming door can also be a customer experience issue. Getting the closer right is one of the lowest-effort, highest-payoff things you can do for an entry door.
We work on door closers across Rincon, Springfield, Guyton, Port Wentworth, and Pooler - storefronts, offices, restaurants, warehouses, and more. Service requirements vary depending on the door, hardware, and complexity of the situation.
If your situation looks like one of these, you're in the right place.
Latch-speed adjustment. We can usually fix in a single visit.
Spring tension or sweep speed. Often an adjustment, sometimes replacement.
Hydraulic seals failed. Time to replace the unit.
We size the closer to the door for proper long-term operation.
If you don't see your situation here, give us a ring - we'd rather walk you through it than have you guess.
Often yes. Many closer issues are adjustment, not failure. We try the simpler fix first.
Quality commercial closers can last many years with normal use. Leaking hydraulic fluid or rattling internals usually means the unit is at end of life.
Yes. We can adjust closers to meet accessibility requirements where applicable.
Yes - and in fact, the closer needs to be set up correctly for the panic bar to latch reliably. We service them together.
Yes. Multi-door commercial work is routine.
